CTCP supported a company in the GRS certification of TR and TPU soles.
Respect for the environment is part of Atlanta’s philosophy. Growing concerns about environmental problems have been incorporated into the company’s management strategy, which has invested in GRS – Global Recycled Standard certification of soles made from recycled TR and TPU materials.
GRS certification is one of the standards of the Textile Exchange organisation that aims to promote and increase the incorporation of recycled materials in products, as well as reduce environmental, social and hazardous chemical impacts throughout the supply chain.
Throughout the production process of TR and TPU soles, non-compliant soles are generated that are rejected by the quality criteria. In-house, Atlanta has the capacity to recycle these pre-consumer materials, which through a process of shredding, reprocessing and extrusion are transformed back into raw materials.
The incorporation of recycled material in new TR or TPU soles can reach 100% of the composition, in an injection and finishing process in which the chemical substances applied are also controlled.
Having relied on the support of the CTCP in the process of obtaining GRS certification, this result allows Atlanta to demonstrate to its clients and partners that it has effectively systematised a set of environmental management practices and social responsibility requirements that ensure compliance obligations are met in a transparent manner.
At a time when the fashion industry is looking for more environmentally friendly products, Atlanta’s GRS-certified pre-consumer recycled TR and TPU soles emerge as another solution presented to major brands to produce more sustainable footwear.
The company Atlanta – Componentes para Calçado, Lda. is dedicated to the production of soles for the footwear industry. Atlanta, with almost 30 years of history, develops and produces daily in its facilities in Felgueiras about 20,000 pairs of soles/day. The innovation that so well characterises the company in terms of materials, design and technology enables it to respond to the demanding requests of national and international customers, providing the markets with solutions for single, two-colour or three-colour soles in TPU, SBR, TR, EVA and prefabricated products.
